Agreed... i find the range of the flatbow to be much greater than that of the longbow. so it goes something like this:
flatbow > longbow > horn bow = composite bow > short bow
not sure about the range of the horn, i don't use one regularly.

Did a test, Longbow vs. Flatbow. Results are attached.
Testing method:
1. walked up to the circle shown in both screenshots.
2. equipped the proper bow.
3. selected the Longbow Target, and hit [SPACE] once.
4. character will walk up out of the circle to attack the target.
Results: if you switch between the screenshots quickly, you will see that the flatbow has a trivially slightly longer range. (IMO)

As far as i know Flat Bows and Long Bows have the exact same range.
You can always take a few steps back once you fire the first arrow and you'll fire from there. Horn Bows are the same range aren't they? Just slower.

Did you try firing the Flat bow first, then before moving, switching to the longbow and firing again. If the Flatbow has a longer range, then your character should move again before attacking. If it doesn't, then you'd attack without moving. That'd be a little bit easier to see.

First of all, great guide Remmeh. Very thorough, and the video is awesome. I can't wait to try this out soon (hopefully). I do have a question though. You refer to that quest reward bow with the "-2 damage while stanced" modifier. My question is, which of the ranger skills qualifies you as being in a stance to receive the -2 bonus? I thought the only stance Rangers had was Practiced Stance (E). Again, I could be completely wrong here.
Great guide though. Thanks for sharing this with us all.

For for the skill set mention by Remmeh, when fighitng Shephards, Woods, Spiders, Worms, you should be always in a stance (either mantra of lighting or physical resistance depending on what your fighting). Another note, if You ever unsure of what skill is a stance, enchant, spell, etc, etc, just hightlight the skill, and in in the desciption of the skill, the 1st word/few words will tell you what kind of skill it is.
EX-Lets say you highlight Mantra off Lighting the description would be-
"Stance. For 30 seconds, whenever you take Lighting Damage
the damage is reduced by 26% and you gain 1 energy"
PS Rangers have alot more stances then just Practiced Stance. They also have stormchaser, serpants quickness, tiger's fury, escape, dodge, dryder's defence, lighting relfex, whirling defence )that should be most of thier stance i thk)

anything that begins with "Stance." in the skill description is a stance.
don't worry about it too much... i had a friend that thought you could only use stances while standing still. so much for sprint ^^

Noticed the same thing when I 1st used the -2 bow(beofre I sold it by mistake again ). The long bow range is about a bit out of your aggro bubble,, but when I use the -2 bow i find I the monsters have to be within my aggro bubble. Found this out when I was fighting a few Shepards and Spirit Wood and decided to switch from Drago's to the -2 bow , and since I usually don't bother to use troll till my life dips down below 150 I got smoked by lightingstrike->chainlighting (realized they were in casting range a little to late )

Well i finally was able to clear the whole forest. It took me three tries to get there, but once i did it was pretty easy (due to the vid ). And what quest do you receive the bow as a reward from?

I got this nice bow here... Icy ( must be Fiery if I'm fighting plants right? ) Storm Bow of Pruning
max dmg
14% -5 energy
18% vs plants
20% customized
Is there anyway to improve my damage? ( without using vampiric )

get a 20% pruning grip and make it 15/-5. i don't think there's any realistic way for you to improve your damage, no. :P

Pretty sure you don't have to change your bow's string from Icy to Fiery, since kindle arrows will already achieve that affect for you

You could change the icy to 10/10 sundering, that would theoretically give you more damage, and as said, 15-5e and 20% vs plants. If you manage that, you've probably got the strongest bow possible against these guys. (With kindle up.)
